Implementing Effective Project & Programme Management
The Situation
Our client was one of the UK's major Train Operating Companies. As part of their Franchise they had a commitment to deliver a programme of projects with an initial total value of £40m during its Franchise period. These projects ranged from Property related projects - complete Station refurbishments to Equipment & Technology Projects - new ticket barriers, automated ticketing to Software Projects - on-line Ticket on Demand Software implementation. Our client required help in the management and successful delivery of these projects. To achieve this they turned to Pragmatique for its proven consulting service in rolling out the most appropriate Project Management techniques into organisations.
The Solution
The first requirement of this project was simply to understand the scope & requirements of what the client wanted. To listen effectively. This was achieved using Pragmatique's latest mind mapping and interviewing techniques to accelerate the traditional approach of understanding the client's requirements. From this process of understanding, a number of key areas emerged as requiring appropriate and immediate support. First we developed a Programme Management Tool - which managed approx 160 projects with a total combined programme value of £65million. In parallel to this we rolled out a series of Project Management Training Courses and developed a standard Project Management Methodology across the company. Then we worked on developing a deeper understanding of some of the core areas of Project Management - Defining Scope & Requirements of a Project, Scheduling a project and so on.
We also worked with the client to develop its Stakeholder Management service capability. Through identifying and targeting key Stakeholders we were able to attracting additional investment funds from external bodies to manage & deliver projects on their behalf.
